What is Titled Tuesday?

Titled Tuesday is an online tournament that Chess.com holds every Tuesday for players with a FIDE title or a national master title. It is a Swiss event, so nobody is knocked out, and the player with the most points after 11 rounds wins.

The Chess.com guide dates the first Titled Tuesday to 30 December 2014. The event has been weekly since April 2020, and top grandmasters play it often: Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen have the most wins. In September 2026 the fields had between 481 and 527 players.

What time is Titled Tuesday?

Titled Tuesday starts at 17:00 Central European time every week, and Chess.com says the schedule always follows that time zone. In India that is 8:30 PM IST while Europe is on summer time and 9:30 PM IST while Europe is on winter time. In New York it is usually 11:00 AM.

Europe and North America change their clocks on different dates, and Chess.com's help page warns players about the weeks in between. On 27 October 2026 and on 16 and 23 March 2027 the event starts one hour later than usual in New York and Los Angeles. The 11 rounds take about two hours, so an event that starts at 8:30 PM IST ends at about 10:30 PM.

Who can play Titled Tuesday

Only titled players can enter. The Chess.com event rules open the event to members that Chess.com recognises as holders of a FIDE title or a national master title, and the title must be verified on the account. Players must show their full legal name on the profile; an anonymous account or an account with a fake name cannot win prizes and can be removed.

To join, a player must be a member of the Verified Titled Players club on Chess.com and have Proctor, the anti-cheating program of Chess.com, installed and ready. The tournament appears in Upcoming Live Tournaments one hour before the start, and players register there. Players without a title cannot enter, but they can watch the broadcast.

Titled Tuesday format and rules

Titled Tuesday is an 11-round Swiss: in each round, players meet opponents on the same or a near score. Every game is 5+0 blitz, which means 5 minutes per player for the whole game and no time added after a move. The time control was 3+1 until 2 September 2025. There are breaks after rounds 4 and 8, and the 2025 rules forbid draw offers before move 40.

Ties on points go to tiebreaks, not to a playoff. The first tiebreak is Buchholz Cut 1: the total score of a player's opponents without the lowest one. The rules list eight tiebreaks in order, and the last is the Chess.com rating right after the event. Tiebreaks decided three of the four events in September 2026.

Players must use Proctor during the event, and the 2025 rules also ask for two cameras: one on the face and the room, one on the desk and the screens. Officials watch the Proctor feeds and can ask for a computer or room check. In its fair-play update of December 2025, Chess.com reported 11 titled accounts closed for violations.

Titled Tuesday prizes and tour points

Since 2 June 2026, every Titled Tuesday pays $10,000, the biggest prize fund in its history. The prize announcement gives $7,500 to the top 10, with $2,500 for the winner. The top 10 also score points for the Champions Chess Tour.

The other $2,500 pays bonus prizes. The top woman, the top senior, the top player and the top girl under 16, the top non-GM, the top non-IM, the best debut or return, and a perfect score each win $250. The best game, the most brilliant move, two streamers and a woman streamer each win $100.

Before the $10,000 fund, each event paid up to $2,500 until August 2025, with $1,000 for first place, and up to $3,000 from September 2025. The 2025 rules also held a one-time prize: $1,000 for the first titled player who read them and emailed Chess.com the requested screenshot. Eric Rosen won it.

The Champions Chess Tour 2026-27 runs from 1 September 2026 to 25 May 2027 and has 39 Titled Tuesdays, plus the Speed Chess Championship and the Chess.com Open. The points add up over the whole season, and the top 12 of the leaderboard qualify for the Esports World Cup 2027. The live standings are on the Chess.com tour page.

Latest Titled Tuesday results

The 2026-27 tour began with four Titled Tuesdays from 1 to 22 September 2026, and each had a different winner. Alireza Firouzja won on 22 September with 10/11.

On 1 September, Hans Niemann beat Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the last round and took first place on tiebreak; the field of 527 was the first above 500 in more than a year. Liem Le finished ahead of Hikaru Nakamura and Tobias Koelle on tiebreak on 8 September, and Sina Movahed beat Vincent Keymer on tiebreak on 15 September. Firouzja was the only one of the four to win outright, half a point ahead of Denis Lazavik.

Chess.com lists the winner, score and field of every edition on its Titled Tuesdays page and posts a report after each event. Its official broadcast, with GM Robert Hess, returned on 1 September 2026, and players may stream their own games with a 15-second delay. Titled Tuesday winners and records

Hikaru Nakamura has won the most Titled Tuesdays: 93 since 20 October 2020, when the event moved to 11 rounds. He won 16 of them before February 2022 and 77 after, including 22 in 2024. That is the highest one-year count in the Chess.com table, which shows 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Magnus Carlsen is second. The records table gives him 46 wins since February 2022, while the text of the same Chess.com page gives him 45. His 18 wins in 2025 were the most of any player that year, twice as many as Nakamura's 9.

A perfect score of 11/11 has happened 8 times, and Carlsen has 4 of them. In the years of two events every Tuesday, from February 2022 to August 2025, Nakamura won both events on the very first day, 1 February 2022.

Indian players at Titled Tuesday

Nihal Sarin has the most Titled Tuesday wins of any Indian player: 10 since February 2022, which puts him in the top 12 of the Chess.com table. Arjun Erigaisi has the latest Indian win, on 7 July 2026, and Pranesh M won on 25 November 2025.

Between October 2020 and January 2022, the Chess.com records list one win each for Raunak Sadhwani and Pranesh M. Liquipedia has an earlier Indian win: S L Narayanan on 1 January 2019. For players in India the event runs late in the evening, from 8:30 PM or 9:30 PM IST.

Titled Tuesday history

Chess.com dates the debut to 30 December 2014, as a monthly event of 9 rounds. Liquipedia starts its list two months earlier, with a win by Baadur Jobava on 28 October 2014, and gives Daniel Naroditsky as the winner on 30 December 2014. The event became weekly on 7 April 2020 and moved to 11 rounds on 20 October 2020.

From 1 February 2022 to 26 August 2025, Chess.com held two events every Tuesday, known as the Early and the Late Titled Tuesday. On 2 September 2025 it went back to one event a week, changed the time control from 3+1 to 5+0 and made the event part of the Champions Chess Tour. In the 2025-26 season the tour points ran in three parts of 12 or 13 weeks. For 2026-27 they add up over the whole season, and since June 2026 each event pays $10,000.
