Vidit has played all three Global Chess League seasons and reached two finals. He was a Superstar player of the upGrad Mumba Masters in 2023 and 2024 and of the Triveni Continental Kings in 2025. For 2026 he joins the Alpine APL Pipers.

In the 2026 season Vidit plays for the Alpine APL Pipers on one of the two Superstar men's boards. The season runs from 5 to 13 September 2026 in Bengaluru, India.

Global Chess League record

In 2023 the upGrad Mumba Masters reached the first league final in Dubai. The Triveni Continental Kings won the first match 9-7, the Masters won the second 12-3, and the blitz tiebreak matches were also split, so the title went to a single sudden-death game drawn by lots. Vidit lost his game to Wei Yi in the first match of the final.

In 2024 the Masters kept most of the squad but did not reach the final in London. In 2025 Vidit joined the Triveni Continental Kings, who dominated the league stage in Mumbai and reached a third straight final. There they lost to the Alpine SG Pipers 2-4 and 1.5-4.5; Vidit drew with Praggnanandhaa in the first match and lost to him in the second.

1. 1.2023: upGrad Mumba Masters, Superstar (men's boards). Team result: runners-up. Lost the final to the Triveni Continental Kings on a sudden-death tiebreak after one match each.
2. 2.2024: upGrad Mumba Masters, Superstar (men's boards). Team result: did not reach the final.
3. 3.2025: Triveni Continental Kings, Superstar (men's boards). Team result: runners-up. The Kings won the league stage and lost the final to the Alpine SG Pipers.

Career highlights

1. 1.Won the FIDE Grand Swiss on the Isle of Man in 2023, which earned him a place in the 2024 Candidates Tournament.
2. 2.Played the 2024 Candidates Tournament in Toronto.
3. 3.Won team gold with India at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest, the first Olympiad gold for the country.
4. 4.Reached the Global Chess League final in 2023 with the upGrad Mumba Masters and in 2025 with the Triveni Continental Kings.
5. 5.One of only a handful of players to have appeared in every Global Chess League season since the 2023 launch.
6. 6.On the September 2026 FIDE rating list, Vidit is rated 2697 in classical chess, 2624 in rapid and 2677 in blitz.

2026 season

Vidit Gujrathi plays the 2026 season with the Alpine APL Pipers, which runs from 5 to 13 September 2026 in Bengaluru, India. Vidit's squad mates are Magnus Carlsen, Anish Giri, Divya Deshmukh, Koneru Humpy and Volodar Murzin.

Each Global Chess League match is played on six boards of rapid chess, one board per squad member, and a win with Black earns the team more game points than a win with White.
