Divya was born in Nagpur. She won the Indian women's championship in 2022, the Asian women's championship in 2023 and the world under-20 girls' title in 2024, at 18. At the 2024 Olympiad in Budapest she scored 9.5/11 on board three, won the individual gold medal and helped India to team gold. FIDE gave her the woman grandmaster title in 2021 and the international master title in 2023.

Her biggest result came at the 2025 Women's World Cup in Batumi. She entered as an international master, beat the third seed Tan Zhongyi 1.5-0.5 in the semifinal and Koneru Humpy 2.5-1.5 in an all-Indian final decided in rapid tiebreaks, and became the first Indian to win the event. The win brought US$50,000, the grandmaster title and a place in the 2026 Women's Candidates; she became India's fifth woman grandmaster and the second-youngest of them after Humpy.

In the last round of the 2026 Women's Candidates she was better after the opening against Bibisara Assaubayeva, who needed a win, but fell behind on the clock. When Assaubayeva sacrificed a knight on f2, 27.Nd6 would have won; with five minutes left Divya took the bishop on b7 instead and then found the only clear drawing line. Her peak classical rating, 2510, came on the April 2026 list. On the October 2026 list she is rated 2400 in rapid and 2345 in blitz, both below her classical 2488.

In 2026 she shared seventh place at the Women's Candidates in Pegeia with 5.5/14, having lost four of five games before the last round, finished fifth at Norway Chess Women in Oslo with 10 points, and was runner-up with the Alpine APL Pipers at the Global Chess League in Bengaluru. At the Samarkand Olympiad she scored 6.5/10 on board three and won the board-three silver medal, and India took the women's bronze; her last-round loss to Bella Khotenashvili left the match against Georgia at 2-2. She is not in the women's section of the European Club Cup in Budva.
